Understanding the difference between a trailer and a opening sqeunce

The purpose of a movie trailer is to create interest in a possible audience and make them want to see the film. Trailers are used to advertise the film by showing the best bits from across the film without any spoilers to create curiosity and make the audience want to feel the gaps. The trailers also advertise the film by showing the actors, directors and film makers which gives the audience an indication of what to expect from the film and attempts to take the fan base from the past films.

conventions of a film trailer:

voice over , lots of shots, release date, age, rating and website

The purpose of a opening sequence is to establish interest and intrigue the by focusing the audience into the mood of the film and absorb them in the world of the film. The opening sequence is crucial to the film so has to be relevant and give some information but keep the audience curiosity

conventions of a film opening sequence:

slower pace , clues for later in the film, opening credits

The 180° degree rule,Mach on action,Eye line Match,Master Shot,Shot-Reverse and how I used them.

The 180° rule is a basic guideline in film making that states that two characters in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other as seen in the figure on the right. If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two subjects, it is called crossing the line. The new shot, from the opposite side, is known as a reverse. This is used in my continuity task as the camera is only placed on one side of the conversation. Match on action is where a charter carries out an action and the shot changes but the action continues in the next shot were the previous shot ended. for example in my continuity task when Darren comes down the stairs to meet me (The Headteacher) and Emily (Darren's Mother). Match on action is used by film makers to give shots a seamless flow. Eye line Match is when a charter looks at something/or someone out of shot, then the shot cuts to what they were looking at.

Master Shot is a film shot of an entire scene, from an angle that keeps all the characters in view. It is often a long shot and can sometimes be used establishing shot.
Shot-Reverse shot is when two or more charters are having a conversation and the camera switches between the charters, to show there reactions to what has been said. for example in my continuity when Darren sits down at the table and we greet each other.

www/ebi on the continuity task

The match on action used in my continuity task went well with the clip having good transitions between shots. During the conversation in the short clip shot reverse shot and eye line match was used well which gave the clip a good variety of camera angles.

The clip would have been even better if continuity was maintained throughout because as seen in the image on the right i was not in one of the shot when i should of been. Although i was only absent from the clip for 3 seconds if it was notice by the audience it could affect there suspension of disbelief.

EBI

The 'push a little button task was my worst task and could of been much better. This task would of been better if i could have had a better working relationship with some of my group members.

www

I found the task with the letter went very well with the filming and editing done to a good standard. This task was one of the only practical task the every thing went to plan so i think it was my best.
