Understanding the difference between a trailer and a opening sqeunce

The purpose of a movie trailer is to create interest in a possible audience and make them want to see the film. Trailers are used to advertise the film by showing the best bits from across the film without any spoilers to create curiosity and make the audience want to feel the gaps. The trailers also advertise the film by showing the actors, directors and film makers which gives the audience an indication of what to expect from the film and attempts to take the fan base from the past films.

conventions of a film trailer:

voice over , lots of shots, release date, age, rating and website

The purpose of a opening sequence is to establish interest and intrigue the by focusing the audience into the mood of the film and absorb them in the world of the film. The opening sequence is crucial to the film so has to be relevant and give some information but keep the audience curiosity

slower pace , clues for later in the film,opening credits
